Conversational AI

Technology that lets software understand and respond to people in natural language through text or voice, as in assistants and AI agents.

BUSINESS RELEVANCE

Conversational AI can answer routine questions, qualify leads and handle bookings around the clock, freeing staff for complex cases, but wrong answers or a hard-to-reach human quickly damage customer trust.

IMPLEMENTATION EXAMPLE

A clinic network deploys a voice agent that transcribes the caller, detects the intent to reschedule, checks the calendar through an API, confirms a new slot with text-to-speech and hands off to staff when confidence is low or the caller asks for a person.

LIMITATIONS

Generative systems can produce confident but wrong answers, and voice systems struggle with accents and background noise. Users also respond better when told they are talking to a bot, so disclosure and a clear route to a human are design requirements.

TECHNICAL EXPLANATION

A typical pipeline converts speech to text with automatic speech recognition, interprets intent and entities with Natural Language Processing (NLP), tracks conversation state through dialogue management, generates a reply with rules or a language model and converts it back to speech where needed. Modern systems connect to business systems through APIs and retrieval so that an AI Agent can act, not only answer. A rule-based Chatbot is the simplest form.
