Google Search Console

Google's service for monitoring a website's presence, indexing, performance and technical issues in Google Search.

BUSINESS RELEVANCE

Search Console is the primary source of Google's own data on how a site is crawled, indexed and shown in search, so it informs SEO priorities, technical fixes and reporting on organic performance.

IMPLEMENTATION EXAMPLE

After a site migration, an SEO lead submits the new XML sitemap in Search Console, checks the Page indexing report for 404 and redirect errors, and compares clicks and impressions for the top 50 queries week over week.

LIMITATIONS

Rare queries are anonymized and left out of query tables, and daily row limits apply, so totals by query will not match property totals. Reports show Google Search only, not other engines or on-site conversions, and data is retained for a limited period.

TECHNICAL EXPLANATION

Access requires verifying ownership of a domain or URL-prefix property through methods such as a DNS TXT record, an HTML file or a meta tag. The Performance report shows clicks, impressions, CTR and average position by query, page, country, device and search appearance. Other reports cover page indexing, sitemaps, Core Web Vitals, manual actions and security issues, and the URL Inspection tool shows how Googlebot sees a specific URL.
