Heatmap
A color-coded overlay that shows where visitors click, how far they scroll or where they move on a page, aggregated across many sessions.
Heatmaps show in minutes whether visitors reach key content and calls to action, giving designers and marketers evidence to prioritize page changes before spending on new traffic.
A pricing page scroll map shows only 38% of mobile visitors reach the plan comparison table. The team moves a short comparison above the fold and an A/B test lifts demo requests from 2.1% to 2.6%.
Heatmaps show where people click and scroll, not why. Dynamic content, personalization and different screen sizes can make maps misleading, and small samples exaggerate patterns. Findings should be checked with tests or research.
A tracking script such as Microsoft Clarity or Hotjar records interactions and aggregates them for one URL or a group of pages. Click maps count clicks per element, often with dead and rage click views; scroll maps show the share of visitors reaching each depth, which relates to Scroll Depth and the average fold; movement and attention maps show cursor activity or time. They support Usability Testing and Conversion Design.
