Hyperautomation
A business approach that combines RPA, AI, process mining, low-code tools and analytics to automate as many processes as possible.
Hyperautomation moves automation from isolated bots to a program that finds, prioritizes and measures automation across departments, which matters where many small manual tasks add up to large costs.
A finance team runs process mining on ERP event logs to find invoice exceptions, deploys an RPA bot with document AI to read 3,000 PDF invoices a month, and routes low-confidence cases to staff through a low-code approval app.
The term is broad and vendor-driven, so it can justify large tool purchases without clear process ownership. Automating a poor process scales its flaws, and bots break when the screens or rules beneath them change.
Gartner placed hyperautomation first in its Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2020. A typical stack links Process Mining to discover and measure processes, Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to operate user interfaces, AI components such as OCR, NLP and machine learning to handle unstructured inputs, low-code platforms to build workflows, and analytics to track ROI. It is a wider program view of Intelligent Automation, with governance for bot inventory, exceptions and human review.
