Average Revenue per User (ARPU)
ARPU divides period revenue by users or accounts and is used in SaaS, telecom and apps to track how pricing, upsell and customer mix change over time.

THE TECHNICAL LANGUAGE OF DIGITAL B2B INFRASTRUCTURE
The time it takes for an investment's cumulative gains to cover its cost, usually stated in months or years.
Payback period tells finance teams how long money is at risk before an investment pays for itself, which matters when budgets are tight or results uncertain, and it is often the first number leaders ask for in a business case for software, AI or marketing.
A product team spends €40,000 on an AI enablement program; the extra value from higher adoption builds up month by month and passes €40,000 in cumulative terms during month 5, so the payback period is five months.
Payback ignores everything after break-even and, in its simple form, the time value of money, so two projects with the same payback can deliver very different total returns. The result depends heavily on the benefit estimate, which is usually less certain than the cost.
With even cash flows, payback period = initial investment ÷ net gain per period. With uneven gains, cumulative net gains are added period by period until they reach the investment, interpolating within the final period if needed. The discounted payback period discounts each period's gains first, which lengthens the result. For programs that ramp up, such as AI adoption, the gain counted should be the extra value over the current baseline, net of running costs; CAC Payback Period applies the same logic to customer acquisition, while Return on Investment (ROI) shows the size of the return.
