Interaction design is the design of how people act with, receive feedback from and move through products or services to achieve objectives.
Technical explanation
Interaction design specifies behaviours, states, controls, feedback, timing, error handling and transitions across a user flow. Practitioners use task analysis, prototypes and usability evaluation to test whether the interaction is understandable, efficient and accessible.

Well-designed interactions reduce errors and support costs, improve task completion and trust, and turn functional requirements into usable customer experiences.
Implementation example
A payment flow validates fields without losing entered data, explains errors next to the relevant control, confirms the transaction clearly and supports keyboard and assistive-technology use.
Limitations and common misconceptions
A polished interface cannot compensate for the wrong task, inaccessible foundations or poor service design. Patterns that work in one context may fail for different users, devices or risk levels.
