Lead Generation
N/ApracticeAlso known as: Demand capture; prospect acquisition; lead acquisition
Lead generation is the process of attracting prospective buyers and obtaining sufficient permission or information to begin a measurable commercial relationship.
Technical explanation
Lead-generation systems combine audiences, offers, channels, landing experiences, forms or conversations, consent capture, deduplication, enrichment and routing. A lead is a contact record, not proof of qualification or purchase intent.
Business relevance
It supplies potential demand to revenue teams and enables acquisition performance to be measured from source through qualification, opportunity and revenue.
Implementation example
A technical assessment captures a prospect's work email and consent, validates the record, records campaign source and routes it to an appropriate nurture or sales queue.
Limitations and common misconceptions
Lead volume can reward low-quality capture and create privacy, deliverability or sales-capacity problems. Definitions, consent and downstream conversion quality must be governed.
